AFIA – African Financial Intermediaries Association, under my leadership as President, welcomes the progressive and constructive engagement with FSCA officials and key industry stakeholders, particularly the meaningful focus on SMMEs and smaller financial intermediaries that serve the greater majority of South Africans.
These intermediaries operate at the coalface of financial inclusion, often with limited resources, yet play a critical social and economic role in bringing financial services, advice and opportunities to communities that remain underserved and excluded from the formal financial system.
As AFIA, we believe that financial inclusion must extend beyond access to financial products—it must empower communities through trusted, professional and sustainable financial intermediation. Our engagement seeks to bridge the gap between regulators, established industry players, SMMEs and the communities they serve.
The dialogue provides an important platform to unpack the progress, opportunities and challenges facing South Africa’s financial services industry, while identifying practical solutions that can strengthen transformation, sustainability, regulatory compliance and meaningful participation of emerging financial intermediaries.
AFIA remains committed to being a credible industry voice and strategic bridge between the regulator, financial services industry and the broader community, contributing constructively towards a more inclusive, transformed and sustainable financial services sector.
