Ek ken persoonlik mense wat honderde duisende rande in Louis Liebenberg se Ponzi-skema verloor het. Mense van alle vlakke: vriende, kliente, pastore, en selfs mense wat met my sou stry en sê hy “doen dit vir die Afrikaner.” Hulle was kwaad toe ek sê dit klink te goed om waar te wees. Maar wat is dit wat mense laat val vir Ponzi-skemas? En wat is die waarskuwingstekens?

Hoekom val mense?

1.Emosionele manipulasie – Bedrieërs gebruik dikwels emosionele beloftes om vertroue te bou.

2.Sosiale druk – As vriende en familie belê, voel mense geneig om ook in te spring.

3.Gierigheid en die hoop op vinnige winste – Die verlokking van vinnige, groot geld kan oorweldigend wees.

4.Gebrek aan finansiële kennis – Nie almal verstaan die risiko’s en werklike opbrengste van beleggings nie.

Waarskuwingstekens:

•Onrealistiese opbrengste – As dit te goed klink om waar te wees, is dit waarskynlik nie waar nie.

•Gebrek aan deursigtigheid – Geen duidelike verduideliking van waar die geld vandaan kom nie.

•Druk om vinnig te belê – As daar dringendheid is om in te spring, wees versigtig.

•Vertroue op nuwe beleggers – Ponzi-skemas gebruik nuwe beleggers se geld om ou beleggers te betaal.

Wat ons kan leer?


•Leer om krities te d**k oor finansiële beloftes.
•Finansiële opvoeding is noodsaaklik om jouself te beskerm.

•Raadpleeg professionele mense voor jy belê.

•Aanvaar verantwoordelikheid vir jou eie beleggingsbesluite.

Moenie toelaat dat gierigheid, emosionele manipulasie of sosiale druk jou in ’n lokval laat beland nie. Doen jou navorsing, wees skepties en maak ingeligte besluite. Dit is jou geld en jou toekoms!
