On October 15, 1962 at his trial for leaving the country without a passport, Madiba made a dramatic entrance in the court room wearing his traditional Xhosa regalia - something that was looked down upon and disapproved by the apartheid regime. In his own words this created an electrifying atmosphere and silence inside the courtroom. Madiba said: “this was a sign of contempt for the niceties of white justice. I knew the authorities would feel threatened by my kaross as so many whites feel threatened by the true culture of Africa.” On this day we remember your rebellious spirit Madiba and that you were a proud son of Africa who never forgot that you were shaped by the values and traditions of your ancestral roots. We love you and miss you still.
