Liberty Two Degrees urges for sustainable efforts this World Water Day and Earth Hour.
As business continues to operate in what is considered the 30th driest country in the world, more efforts towards water conservation must be initiated. Aging infrastructure, over and above the planet facing an unprecedented water crisis, global freshwater demand is predicted to exceed supply by 40% by 2030. And according to research, 15% of South Africa's water supply systems already in poor and/or critical condition.
This World Water Day, we not only need to take infrastructural challenges into consideration but acknowledge the environmental impacts of climate change and the role that business can play in preserving and saving water.
At Liberty Two Degrees, we have focused on conserving water and promoting responsible resource management through a decline in potable water use at our buildings, as well as other water-saving initiatives. We continue to investigate and build water-resilience into our portfolio.
Proactive initiatives need to be adopted to tackle climate change, and as a business in the commercial property sector we will continue to do our part in ensuring sustainable spaces for all.
Aligned with our environmental sustainability efforts and standing in solidarity with the World Wide Fund for Nature, we also acknowledge Earth Hour on this day. We urge you to Join the Biggest hour for Earth – a global initiative that calls for action against climate change. Do this by spending 60 minutes doing something – anything – positive for our planet. Whether it’s planting a tree, turning your leftovers into delicious zero-waste meals, or shopping sustainably at one of our green star rated malls, the hour is yours! The earth calls for our collective action, we encourage every organisation and individual to spend 60 minutes participating in efforts that promote sustainability– every action counts.
