🌍 Disaster risk is not just about what happens after the loss.

For businesses, natural catastrophes and major risk events can affect operations, supply chains, assets, people and long-term recovery.

Reinsurance plays an important role in helping Insurers respond when losses occur, but the conversation is increasingly shifting towards better preparation.

That means understanding exposures, identifying vulnerabilities, improving mitigation and building resilience before disaster strikes.

Because when it comes to major risk, “we’ll deal with it when it happens” is not much of a plan.

A little time out, a little pampering and plenty of great company. 🥂

We recently hosted our Annual Oak Tree Ladies Spa Day at Woodlands Healing Spa. It was a chance to step away from our screens, slow down and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation. 😌

To all the ladies who joined us, thank you for your trust, ongoing collaboration and the successes we share. It was a pleasure to spend this time with you.

We were pleased to attend the Africa Re SA Reinsurance Training Seminar earlier this month at Protea Hotel Wanderers in Johannesburg. 🤝

The two-day CPD-accredited seminar brought together valuable technical insights across key areas of reinsurance, including an introduction to reinsurance, facultative reinsurance, proportional and non-proportional treaties, treaty underwriting, reinsurance claims and technical accounting.

A big thank you to the speakers, including Vuyo Rankoe, Magome Diale, Daphne Sitole, John Izegbu, Reneiloe Pagiwa, Erna Olivier and Hayley Banks, for sharing their expertise on Day 1.

Day 2 continued with important discussions on agriculture insurance underwriting, engineering insurance underwriting, and large complex claims in engineering insurance in Africa, with insights from Lovemore Forichi, Romeo Outtara and Sedgwick South Africa.

It was a great opportunity to learn, connect and stay close to the conversations shaping the reinsurance space.

Always good to be in the room where the industry is moving forward. ▶️

Happy Heritage Day, South Africa! 🇿🇦

Today we celebrate the people, cultures, languages, traditions and proudly South African gees that make this country what it is.

And with the Springboks taking on Australia in Perth on 27 September, we’ve got one more reason to feel that national pride building. Nothing brings South Africans together quite like a braai, a flag and 80 minutes of shouting at the TV.

Please join us in welcoming Karla Prinsloo and Milenko Skoro to the Oak Tree family! 🌳

Karla joined our broking team in August 2026, bringing experience across new business support, HCV underwriting, portfolio management, UMA collaboration and strategic portfolio support. With a Bachelor’s in Consumer Science from the University of Pretoria and a keen interest in reinsurance, we’re excited to have her on board.

Outside of work, Karla is an art and photography enthusiast, loves hiking, especially in the Kruger, and proudly describes herself as a bit of a history nerd. So yes, we know who we want on our trivia team.

Milenko joins Oak Tree with extensive experience in insurance, risk advisory, business development, distribution strategy, client relationships and regional market expansion. His career includes leadership roles with organisations such as Global Fields Risk Advisors, ACE, Etana and AIG, as well as experience across Sub-Saharan Africa and the UAE.

He brings strong industry knowledge, commercial leadership and a real passion for building client relationships. When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him on the golf course or the padel court.

We’re thrilled to have both Karla and Milenko as part of the Oak Tree team and look forward to the expertise, energy and fresh perspective they bring.
