Western Cape disasters -

Message from Adrian Gore
We are devastated by the situation in Knysna and the broader Western Cape and wanted to let you know that we have rolled out several initiatives to assist Discovery members, staff and the broader community.

Assisting our members living in the Western Cape
A Joint Operations Centre was established with Netcare911 this morning to assist any Discovery members impacted by these disasters. We have also reached out to the whole Discovery community to contact Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911 should they or their loved ones require any assistance, including food, transport or temporary accommodation.

Discovery Insure has also sent a team to the affected areas to assist our clients – they’re on the ground already assessing damage so that we can speedily process and approve claims. We are in the process of contacting every financial adviser and client in the affected areas to log claims proactively and assist where we can.

Our contribution to the broader community
While we are working hard to support our members, we are also deeply concerned about all the people who have been impacted by these disasters. To this end, we are supporting NGOs who are currently supplying necessary items to displaced and injured people, as well as firefighters in the Cape region. We have also extended a financial commitment and support to the Western Cape Disaster Fund.

Creating opportunities for our members to contribute
In the coming days, members will have the opportunity to contribute to the Western Cape Disaster Fund through Discovery Card, by donating their Discovery Miles, and through Discovery Vitality, by donating their Vitality Active Rewards to Vitality MoveToGive.

Your clients should feel secure with us

Risk management and prudence are core to Discovery's approach to managing our business. As such, we have extensive and unique reinsurance structures in place to protect Discovery Insure against the financial impact of catastrophes such as the ones experienced this week. Similarly, our reinsurance partners are amongst the largest and most robust in the world. This positions Discovery Insure well to manage the financial impact of these events.

Please know that the wellbeing of our members and staff is our first priority, and that we are working hard to ensure that people are safe and receiving the care and support they need. It is during times like these that we are reminded of the importance of sound insurance protection, community, and using the scale we have for good. We will continue to monitor developments and needs in the area.

Regards,
Adrian Gore
