The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) would like to invite you to be part of the business delegation that will be participating at the 12th South Africa–Iran Joint Commission meeting to be held in Islamic Republic of Iran from 16 -17 March 2015.
The joint commission with Iran is one of the longest running structured bilateral mechanisms that South Africa has with any country and focuses on cooperation in trade and investment, health, education, and science and technology, amongst others.
South Africa recognises that Iran is a pivotal and influential player regionally as well as internationally. Iran has a rich history and a vibrant culture. It has a large and growing economy and possesses skills and expertise that could influence the countries around it and even beyond in a very positive manner.
Iran is also one of the world’s largest sources of energy, be it crude oil or gas. South Africa attaches great significance to its bilateral relations with Iran and to this end the joint commission between the two countries remains a dynamic structured bilateral mechanism, which accorded a very successful 11th session in October.
It is however important to note that the majority of sanctions and the basic structure of oil and banking and financial sanctions remain. However the Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) established by the P5 + 1, effective 20 January 2014, committed to facilitating the establishment of financial channels intended to support “humanitarian trade” that is already permitted with Iran.
As part of this engagement the dti will host a business forum and business-to- business meetings. The focus of the discussions will cover a range of sectors mining and capital equipment, agro processing, health care and pharmaceutical, automotive components, electro technical, chemical, built environment (Engineering) and infrastructure sectors.
Participants will be required to cover their own travel costs.
Please do not hesitate to contact the following officials at the dti regarding the arrangements for this visit. (Ms Talitha Setshedi on Tel: 012 394 3016 email: [email protected], or Ms Shiluva Manganyi [email protected], 012 394 5837
