BOUWEN was founded in 2018, when Michelle Hollenbach found a better and simpler approach to engineering insurance.

Our passion for teaching and upskilling insurance partners paved the way to eventually create BOUWEN Engineering: Insurance HUB and Training Academy.

Michelle Hollenbach, the founder, has a long history, not only as Engineering Insurance Underwriter on the Insurer side of the fence, but also having owned her own engineering focused insurance brokerage prior to 2010, she understands the challenges faced by today’s intermediaries when providing advice to clients on engineering risks.

From months of preparation, compiling the new product in an easy read document, setting up the training academy, drafting terminology pages and really getting sticky on how to approach the South African Engineering client, BOUWEN’s engineering products were born.
In addition to this, we knew that our responsibility did not only lie in providing the best product to the market, but also to train our intermediaries in all engineering products, as they will always have to offer their clients more than one supplier product.
Accredited by the IISA, BETA (BOUWEN Engineering Training Academy) was founded and has been providing training sessions to the market focused on Contractors All Risk Insurance and Plant All Risk Insurance ever since. The feedback has been fantastic. Our trainees can now earn a total of 10,5 hours of CPD point with BETA and walk away knowing how to best approach engineering risk.
