Time is flying, and it's THAT time of the year. Once again we need to plot and plan our way through the maze of SARS obligations.
Yes, the annual SARS IRP5 Reconciliations for the tax year 2018 needs to be submitted by 31 May 2018.
The Income Tax Act No 58 of 1962 states that employers are required to:
* Deduct the correct amount of tax from employees as prescribed by SARS in the PAYE tax tables issued annually.
* Pay the tax (PAYE) over to SARS on a monthly basis.
* Reconcile these deductions and payments during the annual and interim reconciliation process.
* Issue tax certificates to the employees.

Non-compliance with regards to your business taxes, will lead to severe penalties and could ultimately cost your business a lot of money. Money that could be otherwise effectively spent.

We have been in the trade in excess of 15 years and can assist you with this looming deadline that is fast approaching.

Leave the Taxman to us and you can focus on your business.

Dear Valued Customer

This is a official notification following the Budget Speech announcement that the current VAT rate will increase from 14% to 15% with effect 1 April 2018.

This means you could possibly be on a Non-VAT compliant version of Pastel. Older versions Pastel - specifically V11 and older - are not entitled to any legislative changes, product updates and upgrades, and as a result you may become VAT non-compliant on 1 April 2018.

We strongly recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of SAGE Pastel (V18) to ensure you remain VAT compliant. Version 18 will also offer you various business features and full access to support.

CUSTOMERS USING VERSION 12, 11 AND OLDER - NOTE THE FOLLOWING

Your current version of Sage Software, will no longer be supported in any way by Sage South Africa. This means you will not be able to access support for any queries of problems. Urgently upgrade to the Version 18 BEFORE 31 March 2018 to qualify for the limited time reduced price. As of 1 April 2018 standard rates will apply for any upgrades.

You can contact Sage Pastel directly for assistance and quotes, or you can provide us with your Base serial number, Customer number, Registered name and address and we - as registered Sage Reseller Agents - can assist you with obtaining the relevant quote for this important update and change to your current package.

For clients with Active Support Cover the upgrades to the various Versions are indicated below, and can be accessed online. Should you require any assistance of guidance, please contact us.

Sage Pastel V18 - Build 18.2.1 - 16 March 2018

Sage Pastel V17 - Build 17.1.5 - 23 March 2018

Sage Pastel V14 - Build 14.2.2 - 23 March 2018

Kind regards

Marina Hofmeyr

Everyone is setting reminders for the Black Friday sales on the 24th of November ... Penalties and interest can be a nasty surprise. Be sure to submit your return in time, or risk the chance of SARS knocking on your door, claiming all the savings you got from your bargain buys on this ... BLACK FRIDAY ...

Provisional tax - 2018/01

Provisional tax is paid by people who derives income apart from their basic salary. If you therefor earn any of the below
- Rental income from any property
- Interest income from any investments
- Income from any trade or business you run (however small)
you WILL be a provisional taxpayer.
As with so many things there are some exceptions. If you are unsure of your status contact us for clarity on this matter.

If you earn ONLY a salary from your employer with none of the above you are a regular taxpayer and don't have to worry about filing provisional tax returns!

The submission deadlines for the 2018 financial year is:

31 August 2017 (first payment for 2018)
28 February 2017 (second payment for 2018)
Should you have under declared in your above 2 payments a third TOP-UP payment is due on 30 September 2018

REMEMBER

Companies automatically fall into the provisional tax system.

Please be aware that it has come to our attention over the last week, since tax season 2017 opened on 1 July 2017, that scams are once again doing the rounds.

Please be extra vigilant when receiving calls and emails from SARS. If any of the following appears on emails or phone calls, report it to SARS immediately by going onto the SARS website: www.sars.gov.za and navigate to the REPORT A SCAM option.

1. All emails from SARS will end with .gov.za NEVER will it be .co.za; org.za; or anything else
2. SARS will NEVER request your banking details or bank statements via email / phone. This can only be requested online via E-Filing and should then be submitted IN PERSON to the SARS office closest to you.
3. The reference number on ALL correspondence pertaining ANY tax refund will be your SARS Tax Reference number. SARS does not make use of any Claim numbers.
4. SARS does NOT have claims officers to assist you in completing documents to speed up any refunds. The ONLY way to request for an escalation or to find out the progress of your claim is to call your Tax Practitioner who will then follow up via the SARS Tax Practitioner Line or you can contact SARS yourself on 0860 12 12 18 quoting your tax number and verifying ALL your personal details.
5. SARS will NEVER email you ANY tax return of any sorts. They will ALWAYS phone you, and should tax returns or ANY additional information be required a link will be opened on your E-Filing profile or should you not have E-Filing, an official letter will be mailed to you.
6. SARS will NEVER appoint individuals to write you "personalized emails / letters" on a familiar / friendly basis. Remember this is SARS we are talking about. They are not in the business of being friends. Courtesy, professionalism, formal, YES.

Please familiarize yourself with the above, to ensure you do not fall victim to fraudsters.

Again, most importantly. DON'T PROVIDE ANY FORM OF BANKING DETAILS VIA PHONE OR EMAIL. Once these individuals have your banking details, in whatever form, you are in for big problems, which will be costly, time consuming and most of all emotionally tiring.

Should further info be needed or you are unsure of any documents received from SARS or SARS officials, contact us immediately.

17 DAYS before TAX SEASON 2017 is open for submissions. Time to make sure all your relevant tax information is in order and received from your Medical Aid Fund, various Financial Institutions etc. Also make sure you have copies of all your tax deductible expenses as SARS is more than likely to request supporting documentation once your returns have been submitted. When dealing with SARS, rather be over prepared than under and be caught off guard.
