Did you know there are different Methods of Bookkeeping? 📓
Every business must decide what method to use based on how they operate. This choice will be influenced by how many daily transactions you handle as well as the amount of revenue that your business uses. Below are some of the different approaches. 🖊
METHOD #1: Single-entry Bookkeeping 1️⃣
This simple method records each transaction only once. These transactions are usually recorded either as income or expense. It is a method commonly used by small businesses and sole traders who have limited transactions. The single-entry method might be easy to maintain and cost-effective however, it does not provide a complete view of the business's financial position, neither does it support detailed financial analysis. 📉
METHOD #2: Double-entry Bookkeeping 2️⃣
As suggested by the name, this method records every transaction in two accounts, as a debit and a credit. This ensures greater accuracy and helps detect errors more easily. The double-entry method provides a full picture of the business's assets, liabilities, income, and expenses, thus making it the preferred approach for growing and established businesses. 📈
METHOD #3: Cash vs Accrual Accounting Method 💸
With the cash method, transactions are recorded when money is received or paid. This makes it straightforward and easy to manage. With the accrual method records income and expenses when they are earned or incurred, regardless of cash flow. This offers a more accurate view of financial performance and is used for financial reporting. 📊
