Two things happened last week that may have you wondering about your GEPF.

On 17 August, a new Board of Trustees was sworn in. On 18–19 August, Absa took over the custody contract from Standard Bank, who had held it for nearly 30 years.

Your pension is not affected. Custody means Absa now safeguards the fund's assets — it does not manage your benefit or change what you are owed when you retire. A new board and a new custodian are normal governance, not a risk to your money.

We've been a little quiet on these social media profiles because to be quite frank with you it all got a little overwhelming. All we want to do here is share good financial wisdom with whoever cares about what we have to say and help people make better decisions with their finances. And so when we found ourselves drowning in sales and marketing jargon on top of our admin intense daily work, marketing fell by the wayside. And to be honest, joining the attention economy didn't feel aligned.

But we're seeing a change online. With the surge in volume of AI generated content in the last two years, people are completely oversaturated and desperately searching for curated opinions and trustworthy voices. That we can get on board with. So even though we don't necessarily like seeing our faces on here, we know you do (we think) and so you will be seeing more from us on here.

In case you haven't heard the news, we have moved! We enjoyed many happy decades at 7 Escombe road, but decided to make the change a few months ago and were quite surprised when the property sold so quickly. The hunt for a new office space found us joining the beautuful Junction in Garlington Estate. We are so enjoying the change and look forward to seeing you in our new office.
