This week Hoot Hub students developed the following Key Cognitive Skills:

🗝Visuospatial Processing: Mentally rotating and fitting unique tile shapes (roads, cities, and monasteries) into the existing landscape.
🗝Strategic Planning & Foresight: Anticipating future board states, planning multiple turns ahead, and managing a limited pool of meeples (followers).
🗝Tactical Decision-Making: Evaluating the risk versus reward of completing your own structures or blocking an opponent's cities and roads. (Or choosing to collaborate in an alliance)
🗝Spatial Memory and Awareness: Tracking adjacent territories, managing complex field scoring areas, and remembering the placement goals of deployed meeples.

# Choosing a Learning Centre or Cottage School: A Quick Checklist

Thinking about a new learning centre, cottage school, or tutoring setup for your child? A few things worth asking before you commit:

🔹 **Stability** — How long has the centre been operating, and what are their successful graduation statistics?

🔹 **Premises security** — Do they own the space or have a long-term lease? Worth asking directly.

🔹 **Curriculum fit** — Does their approach actually match how your child learns, especially if mainstream schooling hasn't worked for them?

🔹 **Alternative pathway support (e.g. GED)** — If your child is on a non-mainstream track, make sure the centre has real, authorised experience supporting that pathway through to completion.

🔹 **A trial period** — Any good centre should be comfortable letting you and your child try it out before committing long-term.
