On the 2nd of February 2016 I M K E (3year) was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma.
A large growth mass was found above her left kidney, the Neoroblastoma has also spread to her bone marrow.
After many sessions of chemotherapy, further CT scans were conducted, and a recent scan (dated 15 April 2016) confirmed that the growth had miraculously shrunk, and we were extremely thankful for this good news.
The next step for Imke was a scheduled surgery yesterday,6th June 2016 to remove the growth, followed by a bone marrow transplant (BMT). Unfortunately, the treating Oncologist has told us that there is no proven evidence of a successful Neuroblastoma High Risk stage 4 BMT in South Africa, and the overall survival rate is 0%.
Since receiving this devastating news, we have spent night and day doing research, and have found that the best hope for Imke’s survival would be receiving the required surgery in Australia and even more importantly Immunotherapy treatment afterwards that is not available in South Africa.
For more info and details, please view Imke's FB Page:
Unfortunately we have heard Yesterday that Imke can not get a trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre Hospital in New York! Dr Modak called us & explained to us that her disease is cureable & he can still help us, he sounded very positive, but the cost involved in the US for Imke's further treatment will be an estimate of $1000 000about = R16 000 000 he said. Which will not be possible...time is of an essence.
Next Step: We will proceed than with surgery in SA. Imke is now going in for a very big operation Monday morning the 6th of June at 08:00 to remove the tumor. We have received authorization number from our medical aid today. Please pray for her.
We have decided & are very confident in our decision that we will Definitely now go to Australia for Imke's further treatment after surgery where they have given us hope & do have proven evidence of Survivors & approved further advanced Immunotherapy treatment for Imke.
Imke is fighting her battle gainst Neuroblastoma High Risk Stage IV, we as the parents do know that we are doing the right thing & our best for Imke. This will be her best change for survival. We will not loose hope or ever give up!!!
We spoke to Professor Luce & we need to have the full $535000AUD (about R6000 000) by end of June for Imke's further treatment.
We want to say thank you for every fundraising & every donation that have been paid into Imke's Trust Fund to date.
The Fund is Currently standing on R746 210.14
We still need R5 253 789.86. We need this amount by end of June. With man it is or look impossible BUT with God all things is POSSIBLE.
Here is the last & updated email received of the estimate costing from Head of Westmead Pediatric Oncology Hospital Professor Luce. NSW
