2022 has been a challenging year for most of us, and debt has become a household evil.

The worst part about debt is the loneliness and separation we feel. We have this idea that everyone else is keeping their head above water but not us.

The overwhelm takes over, and month-end can be nerve-racking. There is not enough income to pay all the expenses, and we need to decide who gets paid and who does not.

Here are five tips that I used during my sequestrations.
1. Check your bank balance daily.
2. Pay all living expenses and buy essential groceries; at the beginning of the month.
3. Divide what is left, money and groceries, by the number of weeks in that month.
4. Limit your visits to the shops during the month.
5. Talk to your family.

These practices have kept me sane for many years, and I still hold to some of them today.

I hope they help you cope with month-end in the next few months.

The magic is in the micro goals.

During my sequestration, I used micro goals to get back on my feet and create stability in my life again.

How often have you written out your goals, made a vision board, put them on your mirror, and done everything else the goal-setting gurus tell us to do?

And then life happens, and your best plans and goals are blindsided?

I have always had great big goals, and I dream big and put too many things on my plate. I also love to-do lists for every day, week, month, and year. But during the lockdown, I stopped creating these goals and the do-to lists, and when I think of those great big goals from the past, I feel bombarded and overwhelmed.

A micro goal is exactly as the name suggests: a small goal or plan.

The micro-goals become building blocks to something bigger because studies show you can rewire your brain to produce more dopamine, the feel-good chemical, by setting micro-goals.

I started with really simple goals like getting up in the morning, making my bed, and even just smiling at someone that day.

If you are overwhelmed by debt or have depression, you can identify with these goals.

Every day you set these micro or very small but achievable goals, and the big goals become achievable within a short time.
