INDWE BROKER HOLDINGS SELLS ADMINISTRATION BUSINESS TO BROLINK

Indwe Broker Holdings announced the sale of its administration business, Orico, to Brolink – a leading administrator recently acquired by Santam, South Africa’s largest short-term insurer.

“We have had a very successful working relationship with Brolink over many years and consider them leading administrators,” says Peter Olyott, CEO of Indwe Broker Holdings. “We value Brolink’s efficient business and operations track record, its exceptional people and delivery of quality processes and systems,” says Olyott.

The move is in line with Indwe’s strategy of repositioning itself as a leading provider of risk and insurance products and services and to reduce its exposure on revenue not directly linked to the provision of advice, service and products.

“The newly expanded Brolink will provide greater scale and sustainability to improve operating costs and efficiencies. Brolink will continue to expand and grow relationships with other insurers to enable us to provide a multi-insurer offering on both personal and commercial insurance,” says Clipstone Webber, CEO of Brolink. “Due to the consolidation of Orico into Brolink, we will in future support additional IT platforms. This allows for further opportunities to expand,” adds Webber.

SANTAM INTEGRATES ADMINISTRATION BUSINESSES UNDER THE BROLINK BANNER

In a move that mirrors trends in the investment, medical aid and banking industries, short-term insurer Santam has consolidated its administration businesses to provide brokers with a one-stop-shop for quotations and administration services from multiple South African insurers. The new consolidated business will be taken to market under the Brolink brand from 1 October, with Santam remaining uninvolved in operations in order to ensure independence and parity across insurers.

Andrew Coutts, head: outsourced business at Santam, says Santam will integrate Orico and the portion of its Riscor business not operated on Santam’s inhouse systems with Brolink which it acquired earlier this year. “Brolink, Orico, the administration business previously owned by Indwe Broker Holdings, and Riscor are all established and respected players in the industry. Combining their operations will ensure brokers have access to quality processes and systems and exceptional people. The combined channel will offer brokers a seamless service, with access to quotes from multiple insurers, across multiple systems.”

Coutts adds that, for Santam, the integration represents an opportunity to grow this portion of the group’s outsourced business and to ensure best possible economies of scale are offered to the broker community. “Critically, we will remain uninvolved in the day-to-day operations of Brolink in order to give brokers and insurers confidence that the service is unbiased and independent.”

The integrated Brolink business will be headed up by Clipstone Webber as managing director. He says that the newly expanded Brolink will provide greater scale and sustainability to improve operating costs and efficiencies. “Brolink will continue to expand and grow relationships with other insurers to enable us to provide a multi-insurer offering on both personal and commercial insurance. The business within Riscor that is operated on Santam’s IT systems will remain in Riscor and will not be transferred to Brolink. The Riscor team will be headed by Pierre Lourens and will retain its offices in Cape Town, Empangeni and Pretoria.”

Brolink and Santam have been in negotiations for the acquisition of Brolink by Santam.
We are pleased to inform you that the negotiations have been successful and subject
to, inter alia, approval from the competition authorities, Santam will acquire the entire
issued share capital of Brolink. For Santam, this is an acquisition of a proven business
with key strategic value.
Santam is looking in particular for the Brolink acquisition to provide greater scale and sustainability in
insurance administration and to improve costs in distribution channels. Santam regard it as important
to provide support and sustainability for brokers into the future in this channel due to changing
regulations.
Brolink look forward to continue providing award winning Administration Services, Insurance Software
and Management Information to the industry. We have enjoyed strong growth from our existing and
new intermediary clients and look forward to the exciting opportunities for expansion and scale that the
Santam investment provides.
Pursuant to the implementation of the merger, Brolink will continue to offer policy administration,
claims and system services to existing and prospective insurers and brokers in line with its current
business model. Existing Brolink management and staff will be responsible for the continued growth
and profit of the Brolink business and no Santam operations staff will hold any responsibilities on the
Brolink Board. Santam commits to be a shareholder of substance should capital funding be required for
the future growth and development of Brolink’s business operations.

Brolink is proud to have been granted the STRIDE switch certificate, making it one of four organisations to have achieved this important milestone so far. STRIDE is the South African industry initiative to implement data sharing between intermediaries and insurers according to the standards of the international ACORD organisation. In the course of the year Brolink wants to deploy the STRIDE system module at all its intermediaries to facilitate the data exchange of policies, claims and insurer payment transactions with all leading insurance companies.
