Another e-mail scam of which to beware. Note the poor grammar and spelling errors in the e-mail, the lack of an official signature, and the fact that the button to be clicked re-directs to a clearly unofficial/fraudulent site. Also note that the "From" address APPEARS official ([email protected]). Be wary - scammers use clever tricks.

Here's another example of a scam/phishing message received. Beware of messages like this, and DON'T click on the link (where it says "Verify Account Now"). Also note the e-mail address from which it was sent - not a Microsoft or Office address, which is another clue that it's spam :

It's sad that, no matter how bad a situation is, you can often find some unscrupulous person ready to exploit it. Scammers are clearly aware that, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, people are desperate. Also, with more people likely to be working remotely and thus possibly having less cyber-security resources, their devices may be more vulnerable.
Be careful of Spam/phishing e-mails claiming to give you something (such as payments). Especially watch out for :
(a) E-mails from people that you don't recognise ;
(b) E-mails supposedly from banks or companies, but the sender's address is a Gmail or foreign address (i.e. the suffix is not a .co.za or .com) ;
(c) E-mails with attachments (especially attachments with the suffix .html), claiming that you need to click on the attachment to get some reward or open a proof of payment) ; These attachments can re-direct you to malicious websites ;
(d) E-mails with buttons or links in the body of the e-mail that you're asked to click on ; Again, these can re-direct you to malicious websites
If you're concerned about the potential vulnerability of your devices, contact a professional (such as MindSpring Computing) for advice. The fees for securing your devices are likely to be a lot less than the potential cost of being hacked or phished!

We have been buying from Foodeez (Diep River) for years, and they have really helped us to make savings from our grocery budget. We generally find it worthwhile to pop in to see what they have in stock before doing the rest of our grocery shopping, as one often finds products at much lower prices than in supermarkets.

Foodeez shops have been operating in the greater Cape Town area for over 10 years. Our mission is to reduce food waste by making non-perishable food products available to consumers at significantly reduced prices (in many cases we are at least 50% cheaper). How do we do this? Our focus is on those non-perishable products that have reached or passed their Best Before dates. These products are not sold in regular supermarkets. It is important to understand that a Best Before date on a non-perishable product is not a food safety date. Best Before does not mean Bad After (to quote our previous Minister of Health). Non-perishable products cannot ‘expire’ and remain good to eat long after the BB date. A non-perishable product is anything that does not have to be refrigerated, for example canned or bottled food, drinks and juices, dry food like pasta, noodles, cereals, biscuits, chocolates, sweets, sauces, and spices. Basically any food product that has been treated to maintain its quality by canning or bottling, drying, or by using preservatives.
This is what you’ll find in a Foodeez store. Many of our products are locally sourced, and many imported. We have over 40,000 regular customers each month who have been buying and eating our products over the years. We also offer a range of dairy products that have Best Before dates, as well as some general household items. We operate strictly within the law and the guidelines from the Department of Health. Our efforts have also attracted international accolades, specifically from the World Wildlife Fund who have recognised what we are doing to minimise the waste of surplus food.
Why not visit a Foodeez shop and see for yourself? With rising food prices and pressure on household budgets, you’ll be both surprised and delighted at what you will discover. And then try some of the products. In most instances you will not be able to tell the difference between a pre and post BB date product.
We have shops in Diep River, Parow, Brackenfell, Strand, Milnerton, Parklands, Fish Hoek, Oudtshoorn and Grahamstown, and plan to open in Port Elizabeth by the end of May.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Foodeez Family! Find us on Google or follow our page.

Be vigilant about your money and the payments that you make. Scammers and con artists will try to make you feel stupid for asking for verification of banking details, or try to bully you to make changes without questioning, but we all need to be strong and have the courage to ask the necessary questions to safeguard ourselves.
