At Iskhathi Sakhe Funeral Services, we understand that losing a loved one can be one of the most painful and stressful moments in life. During this difficult time, families are often unsure of where to begin. Below is a simple guide to the funeral process:

1. When a loved one passes away at home or in hospital, contact the necessary authorities and funeral undertaker.
2. Identify your loved one at the mortuary.
3. Inform family members, relatives, and close friends.
4. Complete the “Notification of Death (BI-1663)” form — we assist families with this process.
5. Discuss funeral arrangements with the undertaker, including the coffin, flowers, hearse, family transport, venue, cemetery, funeral date, and overall costs.
6. Submit claims with insurance or funeral policy providers.
7. Reserve a grave through the local cemetery office — we also assist families with reservations where needed.
8. Finalize payments and provide clothing for the deceased.
9. On the funeral day, the family accompanies and lays their loved one to rest with dignity and respect.

Please note that this is only a general guideline. Funeral traditions and processes may differ depending on cultural and religious beliefs.

At Iskhathi Sakhe, we are always ready to support and guide families every step of the way, ensuring that your loved one receives a dignified and respectful farewell.

Before anything else, let’s be clear about who this message is for.
It’s for the one everyone relies on without even saying it out loud.
It’s for the one who makes a plan when things fall apart.
It’s for the one who keeps things moving, even when times are tough.
If that sounds like you, then this matters.
If not, you can leave it here.
—
There’s a street in a township around Cape Town where this story begins.
Not special in any obvious way.
Just ordinary homes, familiar faces, kids playing in the road before sunset.
In one of those homes lived a man who did what many do — he carried his family quietly.
No noise.
No big speeches.
Just responsibility, every day.
School fees paid.
Groceries sorted.
Electricity on.
Life moving.
—
There was always something more urgent than planning for the “what if.”
There always is.
He would joke about it sometimes when friends brought it up.
“Ah, I’ll get to it. Still have time.”
And honestly… most people around him were the same.
—
Then one morning, he didn’t wake up.
No warning.
No long illness.
Just like that.
Everything changed.
—
The house that used to be full of routine suddenly filled with people, questions, and decisions.
His wife was still trying to process what had happened when reality stepped in.
The funeral had to be arranged.
Quickly.
Because that’s how it works.
—
Prices came fast.
Coffin.
Transport.
Groceries for visitors.
Tents. Chairs.
Every item had a cost attached to it, and none of it could wait.
—
She checked what was available.
But nothing was accessible immediately.
Processes take time.
Paperwork takes time.
And time was the one thing she didn’t have.
—
So the calls started.
Family.
Friends.
Neighbours.
Everyone contributed what they could.
Some gave freely.
Some borrowed to give.
Some stayed quiet, wishing they could do more.
—
And through all of it, something didn’t sit right.
Because in the middle of mourning someone they loved… they were also trying to figure out money.
—
The funeral was beautiful.
Dignified.
Full of love.
But behind it was strain.
Sacrifice.
And pressure that could have been avoided.
—
Now here’s the part most people don’t hear enough.
Situations like this don’t happen because people don’t care.
They happen because people delay.
Because life is busy.
Because it’s uncomfortable to think about.
Because “I’ll do it later” feels easier.
—
But later has a way of not waiting.
—
This is exactly why Iskhathi Sakhe Funeral Plan exists.
Not just as a policy.
But as a plan that steps in when your family needs it most.
So that when the unexpected happens, the focus stays where it should be — on honouring a life, not scrambling for money.
So that the burden doesn’t fall on the people already hurting.
—
It’s not about expecting the worst.
It’s about protecting the people you love from carrying more than they should.
—
Right now, you still have the advantage.
Time.
Choice.
Control.
—
Because once that moment comes, those three things disappear very quickly.
—
So take a second and think about it.
If everything changed tomorrow… would your family be supported?
Or would they be forced to figure it out the hard way?
—
Iskhathi Sakhe is about making sure they don’t have to.
Simple as that.
