2023: We're thrilled to welcome the new tax incentive rebate for installing new and unused solar panels - a positive step towards renewable energy generation, which will go a long way in alleviating the energy crisis! 🙌

Below are a few tips from Tarina Vlok, our MD, following the news:

👉 It's important for homeowners to ensure that the installation is compliant with Electrical Installation Regulations of 2009 and that a certificate of compliance is provided by the electrician. Only new solar panels and installations qualify for the rebate.

đź’° Additionally, be sure to inform your insurer when making any renovations to your home and adjust your buildings sum insured to account for the increase in rebuilding costs due to the solar system installation.

🚨 Keep in mind that solar panel theft is on the rise, so make sure to extend your security measures to protect your entire property. Consider installing electric fencing for extra protection. Your solar backup will also provide greater protection against damages caused by power surges to your electronic equipment.

Theft is a reality no matter where in the world, says Tarina Vlok, our MD. “If you are lucky enough to be able to afford a high-value timepiece, such as a , one issue that many individuals face when buying a high-value item is it at the bought-for value, rather than the replacement value, as price shifts may mean the difference in the two values could be significant, locking in huge financial losses if putting in a .”

She adds that it is important to remember that if a loss does occur with a limited-edition item, which many of these are, it may not be possible to replace it. Your insurer will always try to put you in the position you were in before a loss occurred, but they may not be able to. In these cases, it is best to accept a cash settlement.
