Earning a salary, but not having insurance is very risky.

You can earn above R 40 000 per month, but if you do not have sufficient insurance cover, it simply seems your salary will not work for you should an unforeseen event occur that leaves you with a significant financial burden.

Why? Lets check out the two(2) cases below

1. Business owners took out business insurance to protect the business against unforeseen events, like a fire, flooding, strong winds or theft.

2. Individuals earning a salary must take out insurance to protect their families against unforeseen events like loss of income, death, disability, and illness.

When INCOME STOPS, due to retrenchment, resignation, retirement, disability or illness. Would you still be able to maintain a decent lifestyle, where you have dignity and respect?

The word "uncertainty" is just another word for risks.

Are we as humans facing uncertainty(risk). The answer is an absolute yes. Let me tell you it's not about uncertainty when something happens to you, its about how you respond to uncertainty.

Let's take an example when system failure happens at work due to a cyber attack, and the downtime exceeded the tolerable time set at an average of 2 hours(downtime), where in actual fact it exceeded 8 hours. How will this impact your productivity, and if we take it further what will be the business impact in terms of revenue generation, serving clients.

What you have control over is to document the system failure and how it impacted your productivity. Why would you do this, maybe you were reliant or just perhaps over reliant on the system to function normally, in order for you to perform your daily task.

What would be your defence? maybe to document everything that impacts your work, and support it with evidence. Why would you do this, because you need to protect your job and "INCOME".

Why do you need to protect your income, the answer could arguably be when income stops it affects your lifestyle. This is not what we would like to hear. But the reality is we need to prepare for uncertainty, especially when income stops.

Life is uncertain - incidents and accidents happen all the time.

A. What are your financial goals?

1. Buying a House in the next 5 to 10 years
2. Save for your children's education
3. Save for your retirement

B. What are the "risks" that could become a barrier, preventing you from achieving your financial goals?

1. Loss of income, due to employer retrencment or unfair dismissal or resignation
2. Death, due to involvement in a car accident or any related accident.
3. Terminal Illness, due to doctors diagnosis with a severe medical condition like cancer stage 4

C. What if the risks above actually occur. What then would you still be on track to achieve your financial goals.

See Case 1,2 and 3 below

Case 1:

When income stops, so does your lifestyle. A job is there to provide an income, to assist you to live a certain lifestyle. On the flip side Insurance are there to protect your lifestyle.

Ever thought about INCOME PROTECTIONS?

Case 2:

What if you are involved in an accident and it causes your death. Who will pay for your children education? Do you think they will still continue to get the same quality education?

Case 3:

What if you go for a medical diagnosis, and the doctor reveal that you are diagnosed with a terminal illness, meaning you will mostly likely not be able to live beyond 12 months.

What happens to the dream of buying a house. What happens to your children future education. Who will pay for medical bills? What about a nest egg for your love ones. Who will take care of them especially when you were the main bread winner.

In "conclusion" when income stops, your lifestyle does not have to change drastically. No one would like to trade their safety and security for a downgraded life within a space of a few months.

Making provision after income stops, is really the tests of time when challenges are mounting. Will you be prepared or in a comfortable position to activate your plans to ensure you continue to live the same lifestyle. Until your financial situation stabilise.

Retirement is no longer just about saving enough money—it's about creating a financial plan that will support you throughout your retirement years.

South Africans are living longer than ever before. While this is something to celebrate, it also means we need our retirement savings to last longer. Rising living costs, increasing healthcare expenses and financial commitments can place significant pressure on retirement income.

Research shows that many South Africans may not be able to retire as comfortably as they had hoped.

One of the most overlooked aspects of retirement planning is ensuring that your risk protection strategy doesn't continue placing unnecessary pressure on your retirement income.

A Retirement plan allows you to pay premiums only until your chosen retirement age (between 55 and 70), while your qualifying cover can continue beyond retirement. This helps preserve your retirement income for the things that matter most:

✅ Your lifestyle
✅ Your healthcare needs
✅ Your family
✅ Your legacy

Successful retirement planning isn't just about building wealth. It's about having a strategy that provides confidence and financial security for every stage of life.

✔️ Protect your family's financial future.
✔️ Preserve your retirement income.
✔️ Manage risk strategically.
✔️ Build long-term financial resilience.
✔️ Retire with greater peace of mind.

Ask yourself the question

If you retired tomorrow, would your current financial plan allow you to maintain the lifestyle you've worked so hard to build?

The best retirement plans start long before retirement arrives.

Let's have a conversation about whether your financial plan is designed not only to get you to retirement—but to support you throughout retirement.
