The Society was founded in the year 2001 ,by a group of parishioners, concerned about the maintenance and future development of the church building and plant. The church building in Calendula Road, was first opened for worship by Archbishop Geoffrey Clayton, on Sunday 25th October 1953. Over the years the mounting maintenance costs and need for further development of the plant presented the parish
with new financial challenges. The group decided that it would be an INDEPENDENT SUPPORT ORGANISATION, and not the normal “Church “Organisation. The reason being, that it would be Open to anyone interested in its maintenance and future development. Members would meet regularly as required and funds raised would be used solely for the objects of the Society, which was to support the parish with maintenance and new developments when requested. Over the years the Society had made finance available to the parish for various projects, like the re-surfacing of the tarmac , painting, fencing and replacing the wooden window frames in the rectory…
As new challenges are now facing the parish to complete the fencing at the front of the church, the Society had decided to launch an appeal for new members, especially among the younger generation,
We thank GOD for the labour and sacrifice of the founders and pioneers of St. Georges and invite anyone interested in the maintenance and further development of the church building and grounds to join the Society. Their support will certainly assist in ensuring that the legacy left to us, will be there for generations to come.
