⚠️ Received your Debt Review Clearance Certificate? Don’t apply for credit just yet.

One of the biggest mistakes consumers make after completing debt review is assuming that receiving a clearance certificate means the debt review flag has already disappeared from their credit profile.

Your credit record needs to be updated first.

If your debt review flag is still reflecting, lodge a dispute with the credit bureaus and provide your clearance certificate as supporting documentation. The bureau then has a prescribed period to investigate and update the information.

✅ Clearance certificate received
➡️ Check your credit reports
➡️ Dispute the debt review flag if it is still reflecting
➡️ Submit your clearance certificate
➡️ Allow the bureau process to be completed
➡️ Confirm the debt review indicator has actually been removed
➡️ Only then consider applying for new credit

Applying while the debt review flag is still active can result in your application being declined — regardless of the fact that you've already settled your debts.

Many consumers believe that if they stop paying their debt review instalments, the debt review flag will simply disappear from their credit record. Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

The debt review flag remains active until it is removed through a successful debt review removal process or after a clearance certificate has been issued once all qualifying debt has been paid up.

If you're unsure about your debt review status or want to understand your options, it's important to get the right advice before taking action.
