After graduating with a degree in Business Studies, Munya struggled to secure employment for several years. This was a difficult and traumatic period for him, as he felt discouraged and uncertain about his future. However, he decided to think outside the box and said to himself, โI need to bring this business degree to life on my own.โ
He initially bought simple work overalls and began working within the construction industry, helping builders by mixing cement and doing general labor. The work was physically demanding and did not pay very much, but it kept him active and allowed him to stay connected to the industry. As he continued working, Munya observed that compacting soil using traditional manual methods was extremely labor-intensive and time-consuming. Curious about possible solutions, he researched online and discovered that this process could be automated using a plate compactor. Although he had the idea, he did not have enough money to buy the machine. He reached out to his brother, who is based in the UK, and borrowed funds to import his first plate compactor.
Once the machine arrived, he started renting it out to builders within his community. At first, he relied heavily on word-of-mouth marketing, which required a lot of effort and persistence.
Later, through further research, he discovered that he could list his machine for rent on www.themachinexchange.comโ . After listing it on the platform, his business began to grow steadily.
Over time, Munya was able to repay the money he borrowed from his brother. He has since imported two additional compactors and now employs two young people from his community. But he is not stopping there. His next goal is to add roller compactors to his equipment portfolio and list them on our platform for rental.
โSky is not the limit,โ he says. In the future, he hopes to own bulldozers and excavators, as he sees strong demand for these machines within the construction industry.
