For young readers, there’s a real thrill in finding familiar places and experiences in a book – and then meeting the author behind the story.

Learners at Ridgeville Primary in Mitchells Plain got to do just that during Coronation Book Week, when award-winning South African children’s author Refiloe Moahloli visited the school to spend time with her biggest fans.

The whole school got involved, with each class decorating its door around the Book Week theme. Our colleagues, Cindy Robertson and Kyla Splinter, joined in too, reading to the children.

This initiative forms part of our literacy partnership with the Principals Academy Trust, bringing locally relevant children’s books to primary schools across the Western Cape, giving more children a chance to discover the magic of reading.
