Every three years South Africa measures how our little ones are growing, learning, and thriving. ✨

That’s what the Thrive by Five Index does. It’s a national survey tracking the development of 4-year-olds across learning, health, and social-emotional wellbeing.

Launched in 2021, it will have four iterations before 2030 and covers all nine provinces, capturing the diverse realities of South Africa’s children. 💛

Today, we wish our South African followers a Happy Women’s Day as we commemorate the powerful moment when nearly 20,000 women of all races united to protest against the apartheid government’s pass laws that restricted movement for all but white South Africans.

African women and girls are disproportionately affected by gender-based violence, poverty, climate injustice, and poor access to healthcare and housing. Today, on International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, let us recognize their contributions and call attention to the systemic challenges they continue to face. 🌍✊🏾

Women’s Legal Centre () is one of the organizations working to address these injustices. As an African feminist legal center, they provide free legal support to help women access justice, challenge discriminatory laws, and fight for the rights guaranteed in the South African Constitution but remain out of reach for too many.

Let’s continue to center their voices and demands in the fight for justice and equality.

The ELMA South Africa Foundation invests in organizations supporting social justice and progress in South Africa through two focus areas: Supporting the Constitution and Gender Justice.

Our investments supporting the constitution assist organizations working to realize the constitutional rights of everyone living in South Africa. Our Gender Justice investments aim to ensure that laws, policies, and support services empower survivors, reduce gender-based violence, and promote gender justice.

For youth impacted by the criminal justice system, the path is even harder. Many are met with rejection, stigma, and closed doors.

That’s why the work of is so important. Through their Creative Solutions program, young people explore visual, performing, and digital arts while building essential job and social-emotional skills to help them reimagine their futures. 🎨🎭💻
