What is Free Cover for new homeowners?
Free Cover for new homeowners is temporary life cover that is being offered by Liberty to a limited number of people who have recently purchased a home and register for the cover.
Free Cover for new homeowners pays out R25 000 in the event of your death, provided your death occurs before the expiry of the policy.
How do I register for Free Cover for new homeowners if I qualify?
If you qualify for Free Cover, you can register at https://FreeCover.liberty.co.za Once you are registered, we will email you your certificate of cover to confirm your cover.
When does my cover expire?
Your cover will expire on the first anniversary following the registration or transfer of your new home.
Who qualifies for Free Cover for new homeowners?
You qualify for Free Cover for new homeowners if:
You are currently between the ages of 18 and 65.
Your property registration date or transfer date is less than 11 months old.
You are a South African citizen with a valid South African identity number.
What happens if I want to cancel my policy?
You can cancel the policy at any time during the period of cover by calling the Liberty call centre on 0860 456 789.
Who can I nominate to receive the payout of the cover?
The person you nominate to receive any amount payable on the policy is known as the beneficiary. Only one beneficiary can be nominated per policy. Once nominated, the beneficiary cannot be changed. No person can receive more than three payouts from Free Cover policies.
Is the Free Cover for new homeowners really free of charge to me?
Yes. Although there is a premium payable for this cover, Own your life Rewards (Pty)
Ltd will pay this premium to Liberty on your behalf. The cover is therefore free to you.
Can the cover be transferred to anyone else?
No, the cover cannot be transferred or ceded to anyone else.
Is Free Cover for new homeowners a limited offer?
Yes, there are a limited number of Free Cover for new homeowners policies available and the offer is available for a limited time period only. Once the limited number of policies has been issued or the limited offer has ended, you will no longer be able to register for the cover.
How would my beneficiary claim and what documents are required for submitting a claim?
The details of how to claim will be covered in your certificate of cover that will be emailed to you and can also be seen on the “How to claim page” on https://FreeCover.liberty.co.za
To process a claim Liberty must receive the following information:
• a fully completed claim form available on https://FreeCover.liberty.co.za
• a copy of your identity document
• death certificate, as well as police statement in the case of a non-natural death
• proof of property ownership date – copy of bond registration or copy of title deeds
• a copy of the claimant’s identity document
• proof of banking details of the claimant (copy of current bank statement on a bank letterhead OR a copy of a printout from the bank with a bank stamp).
Are there circumstances when the Free Cover for a new homeowner policy will not pay out?
Yes, we will not pay the R25 000 cover amount in the following circumstances:
• you commit su***de
• your death occurs outside of the period you are covered for, as specified in your certificate of cover
• your death occurs as a direct or indirect result of a condition that you received treatment for in the 12 months before registering for Free Cover
• your death occurs outside the Republic of South Africa
• you provided false or inaccurate information and if you had provided the correct information you would not have qualified for Free Cover
• the claim on your Free Cover is not submitted within 90 days of your death
• the beneficiary is found to have been intentionally, materially and criminally responsible in any way for your death
• the beneficiary has already received three previous payouts from other Free Cover contracts
• you or the beneficiary are not South African citizens or
• your cover, or a claim on your Free Cover is found to be fraudulent in any way.
