A child term rider is an optional add-on to a life insurance policy that provides a small amount of coverage for minor children. Instead of purchasing separate policies, it extends the parent's existing policy to cover eligible children under one rider. In many cases, this rider can include multiple children within the same household, including biological and legally adopted children.
Coverage is typically designed to be temporary, lasting through the child's early years until they reach a specified age. Because it's attached to the parent's policy, it doesn't function as a standalone policy and generally remains active only as long as the parent's coverage is in force.
