Have you ever loved someone so much that the thought of saying goodbye feels so painful and unbearable?
I felt the pain of saying goodbye to a loyal friend when I lost my dog six years ago.
He's been with me for 11 years. He was there on ordinary days that did not feel special at the time. He greeted me every time I came home, stayed beside me when I was sad and somehow made the house feel more like home.
Then one day, I have to face the silence. I have to face the pain.
No more of his little footsteps.
No more of his familiar face waiting for me.
No more of his running excitedly to greet me.
And then, I started to ask God, “Why did You have to take my dog, my loyal friend?”
And you might be in the same pain where you lost someone.
Sobrang hirap and how I wish I could give you an answer that would make the pain disappear. I know the feeling. I have been there before. I know it is painful and really unbearable. But sometimes, we simply don’t really know why God allows us to lose someone we love so much. They could be a friend, a family member, a parent, a pet, a relative or someone really close to us. Hindi ko alam.
What I do know is that our grief is a reflection of how deeply we loved.
So kapatid, if you lost someone, cry if you need to. Talk to God about it. Tell Him how much you miss them. You don’t have to hide your pain from the One who knows your heart.
And when the tears come, remember the beautiful gift they gave you. The years of friendship and companionship, countless memories and a kind of love that asked for so little in return.
Maybe they are only with us for a part of our journey but the love they leave behind stays with us much longer.
So thank You, Lord, for the days You allowed us to have together.
And when I am ready, help me remember someone I loved not only with tears but with gratitude.
I may not understand why You allowed the goodbye, Lord.
But I trust that You were there in every moment of love before it.
Until we meet again in the memories that still make me smile.
Hay. Yun lang! Peace and blessings.
