My first job paid about $1 a day.

Instead of spending it all on candy, I learned to save.

Years later, my dad told me we couldn’t afford private college.

I asked, “Is there any way I can go?”

He said, “Save one year of tuition.”

He laughed.

I didn’t.

I saved—and eventually enrolled at the University of Rochester.

Sometimes ambition starts with a penny.

When I Finally Managed $700M, It Felt Normal

When I finally managed $700 million, it didn't feel surreal.

I had already dreamed about it, visualized it, and felt what it would be like before it ever happened.

So when it became real, it felt… normal.

See it. Feel it. Believe it. Then build toward it.

They Told Me to Forget My Dream. I Didn’t.

In 1993, I had a dream: I wanted to manage money.

I was working at an insurance company, so I reached out to Wall Street.

They told me I had no experience, no background, and no education for it.

Naturally, I started doubting myself.

Almost everyone around me did too.

Except for one person.

He showed me a path—and I followed it.

15 years later, I got the opportunity I had dreamed about.

Citigroup gave me $300 million to manage.

It was 2008. The market was down 40%, financial stocks were down 57%, and I still made money that year.

Eventually, I was managing as much as $700 million.

Never let someone else's doubt become your own.

My first money memory wasn't really about money.

When I was a child, my uncle showed me a jar of coins from different countries he'd visited.

I was fascinated.

I remember thinking:

“I want that too.”

40 years later, I've visited 30 countries, 40 different cities—and yes, I've collected a lot of coins along the way.

Sometimes a simple childhood fascination can become part of the story you're creating without even realizing it.

“Money doesn't grow on trees.”

“We can't afford that.”

“That's too expensive for us.”

I grew up hearing these phrases. They came from people with good intentions—but that didn't make them the truth.

As I got older, I realized something: I could choose which beliefs to keep.

I could keep the limiting ones, or replace them with empowering ones.

That's what I teach my clients today.

You don't have to live by every money belief you inherited.
