Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has announced it has suspended the membership of both Eskom and Transnet with immediate effect. This follows BLSA’s engagement with the two state-owned enterprises in connection with extensive allegations of corrupt behavior over a long period. “South Africans have been rightly disturbed in recent times at the numerous allegations of corrupt behavior and colossal failures of corporate governance and accountability at both Eskom and Transnet,” said BLSA CEO Bonang Mohale. Petra Diamonds said the Tanzanian government has authorised it to resume diamond exports and sales from its Williamson mine that had been blocked over a valuation dispute. The announcement will come as welcome news to the London-listed miner — which is also suffering industrial unrest at its South African operations — because of a risk it might breach its banking covenants if the Tanzanian exports remained frozen.
