Celebrating 25 years of development in accounting and auditing in Kosovo 🇽🇰
The Association of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo (SCAAK), a member of the International Federation of Accountants, recently marked its 25th anniversary with a conference in Pristina. Since its establishment in 2001, the World Bank has supported SCAAK through financial and technical assistance—helping build Kosovo’s accounting, auditing, and financial reporting framework, including in relation to the certification of accountants and auditors.
Through continued collaboration, particularly via the World Bank’s Centre for Financial and Sustainability Reporting Reform (CFRR) in Vienna and the EU-funded REPARIS program, this partnership has strengthened corporate financial reporting, supported harmonization with EU practices, and improved the business environment in Kosovo. These efforts are contributing, through small and medium-sized enterprises, to stronger growth and job creation opportunities. SCAAK remains a key partner in advancing knowledge, professionalism in accounting and auditing practice, and capacity building in Kosovo.

💦 Kosovo's main irrigation system, in the region of Dukagjini, has been upgraded and expanded, enhancing profitability and sustainability of agribusinesses in the country. Thanks to a project implemented by the World Bank Group and funded by the European Union (€9.1 million grant), around 4,000 additional hectares are benefiting from expanded irrigated services, and more than 7,000 farmers will soon enjoy improved water security and quality. 🔵 “Water is essential to drive jobs and prosperity. Making sure every drop is sustainably used is essential. By strengthening irrigation systems, we are doing just that, so I am very proud that the World Bank could be part of it”, said Carole Megevand, World Bank Country Manager for Kosovo and North Macedonia, at the inauguration ceremony. 🇽🇰 Armend Muja, Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, emphasized that the investment represents an implemented vision for a more modern and productive agriculture, which can better withstand future challenges.

⚖️ A strong justice system is one of the keys to economic growth. When businesses can rely on clear rules, enforce contracts, and resolve disputes quickly and fairly, they are more likely to invest, expand, and create jobs. But when property rights are uncertain or cases drag on, risks increase, and opportunities decline. - World Bank Deputy Country Manager, Jane Sprouster, at the presentation of the latest Justice Survey, funded by the EU and conducted by the World Bank Group.

📊 The World Bank Country Manager for Kosovo and North Macedonia, Carole Megevand, the Country Economist for Kosovo, Nora Kokaj, and the Economist on Social Protection, Cornelius Von Lenthe, presented the Kosovo related findings of the new Western Balkans Regular Economic Report to institutional and international stakeholders, which included representatives from the Government, Parliament, Central Bank, Statistics Agency, Tax Administration, Pension Fund, as well as representatives from development and donor agencies.
🇽🇰 The report, which analyses the recent economic developments and the outlook in the countries of the region, notes that although growth in Kosovo decelerated in 2025, the economy showed resilience amid multiple shocks. The outlook is however subject to downside risk, including uncertainty stemming from the impact of the Middle East conflict.
⭕️ "Maintaining strong fiscal buffers and prioritizing growth-enhancing spending to boost productivity and strengthen competitiveness, are of utmost importance for Kosovo in times of heightened uncertainties ", said Carole Megevand, World Bank Country Manager for Kosovo and North Macedonia. “Raising the participation of youth and women in the labor market can foster a stronger and more sustainable growth”, she added.
