Why Uruguay? Part II
Sales and Purchases First Semester 2021:
During the first half of 2021, 536 sale and purchase transactions were carried out, 60% more than in the same period of the previous year. The total area traded exceeded 114,000 hectares.
Forty-three percent of the surface area sold was concentrated in the departments of Lavalleja, Rocha and Soriano, with average prices of USD 2,642, 2,292 and 7,631/ha, respectively. The departments of Soriano, Colonia and Canelones (with soils of greater productive potential) recorded the highest average prices per hectare, reaching values of USD 7,631, 5,773 and 4,742/ha.
At the other end of the country, the lowest average price was in the department of Artigas at USD 1,975/ha, followed by Salto at USD 2,019/ha.
In order to contribute to a better visualization of the distribution of the different transactions that took place, the indicator "USD/ha by Cadastral Section" was mapped (map 1).
On the other hand, to help US retirees choose a quality place for their retirement years, International Living presents its "Retirement Index", which features a comprehensive and in-depth survey based on hundreds of opinions and real-life experiences. In this sense, we present David Hammon who told his experience of living in Uruguay: "I moved to Uruguay 15 years ago. Among the things I appreciate is its egalitarian culture. Uruguay is the most democratic country in Latin America. And in relative terms, it boasts the largest middle class in the Western Hemisphere," Hammon said.
He highlighted the social security and health systems, as well as the low probability of natural disasters and the possibilities of accessing a public university education.
Hammon also highlighted Montevideo, which concentrates 40% of the population, with its tree-lined streets, large parks and waterfront promenades facing the Río de la Plata.
In turn, for those who prefer life close to the countryside, Hammon recommends "settling in a small inland town where you can live close to rural life without the cost of owning your own farm" or being interested in farms on the outskirts of cities.
