Yesterday I had the privilege of facilitating my monthly grief support discussion at The Willows at Raleigh Senior Living.

Our topic was "Remembering with Sadness and Gratitude."

One of the things we discussed is that grief isn't something we "get over." Instead, we gradually learn to carry both the sadness of loss and the gratitude for having loved someone deeply.

Many of the residents shared memories that brought tears... and then smiles. It was a beautiful reminder that grief and gratitude can exist together. In fact, the sadness we feel often reflects the depth of the love we experienced.

Sometimes healing doesn't come from finding the right words—it comes from having a safe place where your story can be heard.

Thank you to everyone who participated today for your openness, honesty, and willingness to encourage one another. It is always an honor to walk alongside you.

If you know someone who is grieving, remember: they don't always need advice. Sometimes the greatest gift you can offer is simply your presence.

As a Grief Coach, I received calls from 2 individuals last week who were grieving not due to death but to life - life and the difficulties that show up oftentimes unannounced to our address.

They knew I couldn't change their situation but understood that grief can seem lighter when shared.

In these times when we often see "perfect" social media lives projected, let's not forget the importance of just being a listener to those who are suffering.

- The Conversation Most Families Avoid -

Sometimes the most loving conversations are the hardest ones to start.

Not because families don’t care…
But because talking about aging, illness, or death can feel uncomfortable.

The truth is: final wishes planning is less about death and more about reducing confusion, stress, and guesswork for the people we love.

You don’t have to figure everything out today.
Just start the conversation.

Even one simple question can open the door:
“What would be important to you if something unexpected happened?”

Most people don’t realize that life insurance policies usually include something called a “contestability period” during the first 2 years.

That doesn’t mean the policy won’t pay.
It simply means the insurance company can review the application more closely if the insured passes away during that time.

The important lesson:
Be honest and accurate when applying for coverage.

Life insurance is designed to protect the people you love. Making sure the information is complete and truthful helps prevent unnecessary stress for your family later on.

A good policy isn’t just about having coverage…
it’s about having peace of mind. ❤️

Please share the location of your life insurance policies with someone you trust.

One of the most overlooked parts of estate planning isn’t just having the documents… it’s making sure the right people know where they are.

I’ve seen situations where families spent weeks searching for:
• Wills
• Power of Attorney documents
• Living Wills
• Life insurance policies
• Funeral instructions
• Bank information

During an already emotional time, not knowing where these important documents are located can create unnecessary stress, confusion, and even family conflict.

A simple conversation today can make a difficult season much easier tomorrow.

Consider asking yourself:
✔️ Do I know where my important documents are?
✔️ Does someone I trust know where they are?
✔️ Are they organized and accessible in an emergency?

Peace of mind is not just about preparation — it’s also about communication.
