The Sutter County walnut ordinance has been updated to a fixed time period of November 1 to April 30th. See the release from Sutter County Agricultural Commissioner's Office below.

‼️🌿 Sutter County Walnut Buying Period Updated! 🌿‼️

November 1st thru April 30th

The following requirements remain in effect:
• Outside the established Walnut Buying Period, walnuts that have not been dried or processed may not be transported to, sold to, purchased by, or received by non-processing walnut buying operations within Sutter County.
• Persons possessing or transporting walnuts must comply with applicable proof-of-ownership requirements.
• Walnuts transported directly by a grower from the farm or ranch where they were grown to a commercial processing or packing facility remain exempt from the ordinance.

Businesses purchasing, processing, or reselling walnuts may also be subject to additional licensing and regulatory requirements, including:
• California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Market Enforcement Branch
licensing.
• CDFA Weighmaster licensing.
• Registration and inspection of commercial weighing devices.

Harvest season is in full swing - and that means more farm equipment on our rural roads. A few extra minutes of patience can help prevent a senseless accident.

🚦Slow down around equipment
🚜 Give equipment extra room for large loads and wide turns
👀Be alert and keep eyes on the road, watch for caution lights
❌ Only pass when you can see that it is SAFE to do so

And remember with vehicles hauling loads, the space in front of them while driving is there for safe stopping distance. Those car-length gaps are for your safety and theirs. They can NOT stop as fast as a passenger car, so stay out of their stopping zone.

Our very own directors Shelby Stricklin and Harry Sidhu represented YSFB in Washington DC in September!

A California Farm Bureau delegation that included more than a dozen of the organization’s members, staff and executives traveled to Washington, D.C., last month to advocate on issues affecting farmers and ranchers. 🌱🏛️

Among the group’s priorities were discussions around passing a new farm bill and policies related to endangered species and the farm workforce.

💬 “It makes all the difference when lawmakers can hear directly from farmers and ranchers about the challenges they face and the real-world impacts of policy decisions,” California Farm Bureau President Shannon Douglass said. “Our members were able to share specific examples of how they’ve been affected by rising production costs, trade conflicts, labor shortages and other headwinds that have made the current farming environment one of the most difficult in decades.”
