BCSO Did You Know: Everyone knows what to do when an emergency vehicle is approaching you; pull over to the side of the road.
Do you know what to do when you are approaching/passing an emergency vehicle that is on the side of the road? Most people don't that Idaho Law requires drivers to immediately reduce speed below the speed limit and move over into an adjacent lane if and when there is another lane available. If there isn’t an adjacent lane, you should reduce your speed below the speed limit and safely pass the emergency vehicle. This law applies to law enforcement, fire, EMS, highway, and tow company vehicles displaying flashing lights. If an emergency vehicle is traveling with its lights or sirens, you are required to pull to the side of the roadway and allow it to pass.
