The King's Highway had its origins as a Native American footpath and trade route. Later English colonists used it as a cart road and the road was gradually widened for wagons and buggies. After the American Revolution and rejection of the English king, they called it Hallet Street or Main Street. The road was widened further to accommodate cars in the early 1900s. It's considered one of the most scenic drives in America. 1777 British map.
