The Fed raised rates by 50 basis points, or .5%, in a plan to slow down inflation. For homebuyers, this means interest rates could continue to increase costing borrowers more over the life of their loans.

There are some ways for buyers to protect their pockets in a rising rate market. Buyers who are under contract should make sure their rate is locked in now. Buyers in the building process need to work with a lender who offers extended rate lock options.
