Golden Arches To Open Near Wapato High School

Something big is cooking in Wapato. On May 19, after months of architectural plans, community focus groups and town hall meetings, McDonald’s broke ground on its newest and most innovative restaurant.

The new store is just minutes from Wapato High School and right off the highway at 105 Frontage Road as drivers head into town.

“This is not just another location. It’s a chance to serve Wapato families in a whole new way,” said JD Bewley, a local franchise owner with his wife, Megan. “We’re excited to bring modern convenience, great food, and meaningful jobs to the city of Wapato.”

The store will bring an estimated 60 new jobs to the area. Grand opening plans will be announced as construction nears completion.

Ok we are two weeks into the “New Year, New You,” are you still eating your greens? Because these girls are!

Feed and Forage imbalance is a resource concern we can help with! There are many ways to address each resource concern, but if you are short on feed quality or quantity there are a few things we can recommend (before reducing numbers!).

-Interseeding your pasture. Adding a clover can increase your protein levels and pasture health.

-Completely renovating your pasture or hayfield. Extremely degraded land may need to start fresh. If your pH and nutrient levels are way off some amendments or management changes may be needed before you can grow the forage you need.

-Converting cropland to forages. Planting a new pasture or hayfield is an easy solution, but not always viable. But you could definitely add cover crops and take advantage of some winter grazing or skip a cash crop year and plant a diverse annual forage to help you during that summer slump.

-Implementing intensive rotational grazing. Exerting more control over your grazing system not only reduces waste but also allows you to better stockpile for winter.

What practices have you used to improve your feed and forage?
