Official Statement from the Office of the Director, Michigan Fugitive Recovery and Apprehension Team

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we extend our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Chicago Police Officer Malissa Torres, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty today.

Officer Torres was not just a protector of her city—she was a beacon of service, strength, and compassion. As a fellow law enforcement leader, I recognize the weight of the badge and the silent battles our officers face every day. Her passing is not just a loss to the Chicago Police Department, but to every brother and sister in uniform across this nation.

This tragic event underscores the immense pressures faced by law enforcement officers. It's a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health support within our police departments. If you or someone you know is struggling, please seek help.

On behalf of the Michigan Fugitive Recovery and Apprehension Team, I offer our prayers and unwavering support to the CPD family. May the memory of Officer Malissa Torres be forever etched in the legacy of those who serve with honor and courage.

Rest easy, warrior. We’ve got the watch from here.

Respectfully,

Ricky J. Phillips
Director, Michigan Fugitive Recovery and Apprehension Team
