A lower premium can be appealing, but what happens when you need to file a claim?
Your deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage helps pay for a covered loss. In general:
• A higher deductible usually means a lower premium, but more out-of-pocket expense after a claim.
• A lower deductible usually means a higher premium, but less to pay when a covered loss occurs.
The right choice depends on your budget, emergency savings, coverage needs, and comfort with financial risk. It’s also important to remember that deductibles can vary by policy and type of claim.
