TS has strengthened to maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving northwest at 5 mph across the NE Gulf. Some additional strengthening is possible today, but increasing wind shear and nearby dry air should prevent hurricane development and cause weakening by Wednesday. Bertha is expected to track near the northern Gulf Coast before approaching southeastern Louisiana, bringing tropical-storm-force winds, heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with isolated totals near 6 inches, flash flooding, dangerous surf, and coastal flooding of up to 4 feet from the Florida Panhandle through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. A Storm Surge watch + Tropical storm warnings and watches remain in effect across portions of the central Gulf Coast, and residents farther west into Louisiana and Texas should continue monitoring updates as the storm moves westward later this week.
