A lot of people put annuities into one bucket, but there are actually 9 main types, each built for a different goal: growth, income, or legacy. Here's a simple example. Let's say you need $4,000 a month in retirement and Social Security covers $2,000. The job is to figure out how much it takes to create an annuity paying the other $2,000 for the rest of your life. And the goal is never to put all your dollars into the annuity. Do you know what your monthly income gap is? Comment below. 👇

Let’s bust the myth that your expenses automatically drop 20% when you retire. A common rule of thumb says you’ll only need about 80% of your income, but in the first few years, every day feels like a Saturday. Travel, home projects, time with the grandkids, dinners out with friends. For many retirees, spending stays flat or even goes up, and healthcare costs tend to climb as you get older. The spending doesn’t disappear, it just changes buckets. Are you planning for a discount that may not come? Comment below. 👇

Here’s why I avoid variable annuities for retirees. When the market goes up, your money goes up. When the market goes down, your money goes down, just like an IRA invested in the stock market. For someone living off their savings, I don’t want that kind of downside loss. Did you know a variable annuity works this way? Comment below. 👇

Want to know your Social Security break-even age? Here’s the quick math. If your full retirement age is 67, claiming at 62 gives you about 70% of your full benefit, while waiting until 70 bumps it to about 124%. But claiming at 62 means 96 checks in your pocket before the 70-year-old gets their first one. Every month after that, the bigger check chips away at your lead, and on a simple basis the break-even lands around 80 and a half. If you’re married, the higher earner’s choice also sets the survivor benefit. Have you figured out when you’ll claim? Comment below. 👇

Turning 65? There’s a new tax break most people haven’t heard about. 👇

Through the 2028 tax year, qualifying seniors can claim a deduction of up to $6,000 each.

Here’s the quick version:
✅ Age 65 or older by the end of the tax year, with a Social Security number
✅ Married and both qualify? Up to $12,000 combined
✅ It phases out as income rises, starting above $75,000 single or $150,000 joint
✅ It stacks on top of your standard deduction, it doesn’t replace it

Tax rules can be tricky, so check with your tax professional before you file.

Save this one for tax time and send it to someone turning 65.

When it comes to retirement and cash flow, we're solving for distribution. Accumulation is still part of the picture, but the bigger question is how to turn the money you've saved into income. Can a chunk of it be set up to cover your bills for the rest of your life? Have you thought about retirement as a paycheck instead of a balance? Comment below. 👇

A client was 66 and needed $30,000 for a new roof, so he took it from his IRA and figured he'd just pay the income tax. Two years later, a letter from Social Security showed his Medicare premiums had gone up by about a hundred dollars a month. He thought it was a mistake. It was a rule called IRMAA, and it works like a cliff: go over the income threshold by even one dollar, and you pay the higher premium for the entire year. Before you pull a lump sum from a pre-tax account, check the Medicare thresholds first. Did you know about this one? Comment below. 👇

Did you know there are 9 different main types of annuities? Which one makes sense depends on your goals and your situation. For retirees, I avoid variable annuities because I don't want clients exposed to downside loss. Indexed annuities offer downside protection with upside growth. Then it comes down to purpose: one built for income, one just for growth, one for legacy. Do you know which goal matters most to you? Comment below. 👇
