Woodland Seed Library

Woodland Seed Library Welcome! We are dedicated to working together to build a locally-adapted seed bank.

The Woodland Seed Library is located in the Woodland Public Library, in a repurposed card catalogue that you'll find right away when you walk through the front door.

Hi everyone - you may have noticed the seed library is a bit...sparse at the moment. We've realized that we will need a few more people to keep up with it and make sure the drawers are filled.

Is anyone interested in volunteering? It would involve sporadically picking up seeds from my (Elizabeth's) house, bringing them to the library, and spending some time filling envelopes and neatening the drawers. Depending on how many volunteers we have, I'd imagine that any one person wouldn't be needed more than a few times per year.

Please let me know here if you're interested in contributing. I know the library has languished, but I really believe in it and want to make sure it doesn't die.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! The seed library is going to get a revamp this weekend. We're going to separate the drawers a little differently to make individual species easier to find and we're going to process a bunch of seeds we've gotten and put them in packets. Please stop by next week and check it out! It's not too late for a lot of winter veggies...

Hi everyone, good news! The seed library is now open! It's the card catalog by the checkout desk at the Woodland Public Library. Apologies for the delay, but I'm glad we got it ready before the fall planting season. :) Please share with your groups and let us know what you're growing!

Hi all, I'm in the process of updating the inventory, and in the process have removed all the hybrids from the old inventory. I have the following seed packets of hybrids, which cannot be saved and returned to the seed library (because they won't come true from saved seed), but that can totally be used to grow the vegetables. Anyone interested in these packets?

Corn 'Kandy King' (1)
Corn 'Peaches and Cream (1)
Tomato 'Early Girl' (2)
Cucumber 'Tasty Green' (1)
Zucchini 'Jackpot' (2)
Onion 'Redwing' (2)

An updated inventory is available in the group's files.

Seeds went out to those who requested them via snail mail yesterday, April 13!

Hi everyone! The Woodland Seed Library is beginning its life through snail-mail, due to the shelter-in-place restrictions as well as the high demand for seeds. Please see the "About" section for contact information and hours.
