This is Main Street in Woodhull looking North. Horses and early cars. Notice the bells on the horses and the large rigs they are pulling - maybe stagecoaches? Notice also the sign on the building to the right - the HP Smith & Son firm has witnessed a great deal of history.

Today we see the former Woodhull Town Crew working on streets in the village. Thanks to Joe Kilmer for this photo. Joe advised that sitting on the grader is Earl Brown, who was also the proprietor of the Woodhull Feed Mill and Hardware.

Today we see the Woodhull School, now the Town Hall. It looks like this was taken in the early 50's based on the cars? This building was built in 1928 after the former Woodhull Academy burned to the ground in 1927. The school officially closed in 1969 with most students transferring to Addison Central School. Town offices and the MacDonald Health Clinic are now found here.

Today we have a 1922 Fire truck owned by the Woodhull Fire Department. It is unknown when the photo was taken, but judging by the sign on the hood this was a proud ancestor of trucks of that day. Behind we see the District #1 School House which in later years was the Town Library and Town Hall. This building was torn down to make room for the current/larger Firehall sometime prior to 1970 (someone fact-check me on the year here). Further up the street we see the Andrews house and the Baptist Church. Photo taken at the Woodhull Fire Hall on West Main Street.

Today we have a now and then comparison of the East side of Main Street. This may offer some clarity when people try to imagine the pre-1925 buildings that were in our town that were destroyed by fire. As always, the Woodhull Community Center Building (2 story, right hand side) stands watch.

Many people have suggested that we post photos that compare yesterday to today, well here you go. Today we are missing a few buildings, notably the Odd Fellows Hall (2 story building on the right by the bridge) and the Post Office next to it. Also the once Beautiful house on the other side just visible in the lower left hand corner. The Bi-State Sprinkler building/gas station next to that was also torn down in the early 1990's. Many of the signs we see on the early photo (Mobile, Sinclair, Coca-Cola) would be a picker's dream today!

Today we see the Remchuk house on West Main Street back in the early 1900's. This is the first house on the left turning from Main Street and still remains in mostly original, beautiful condition. On the back of this picture it indicates that it is Frank and Mary Park in the buggy. The 2021 flood barely missed the house but carried away a 2 car garage that was built to the left of the dwelling.

Many people are curious about the East side of Main Street in Woodhull which burned in 1925. Here is a view taken from beyond the bridge before that fire. The H.P. Smith & Son firm was located in the building where the large tree stands and lost everything in the fire. This is roughly where the Community Bank building is now located. The Post Office was located on this side along with the Lantz House and a jeweler to name a few of the businesses destroyed.

Today we see two buildings that are no longer here, but are in a very familiar place. This is on Academy Street, named for the Woodhull Academy which is the large building in the rear. The home in the front is the Boarding house, perhaps for teachers? The Academy burned in 1927 and the new Woodhull High School was built in 1928. This is now the Town Hall. Where the Boarding house sits is about where the current Playground is located. We see County Route 99 threading up the hill to eventually end in Osceola, PA.

Thanks to Kim Heckman for this one. This is standing in front of the (current) insurance agency looking towards the Cheese Factory in the distance. The building to the left is the Lantz House, and this tells us that the photo was taken before 1925 when that building burnt along with adjacent businesses. The Youth Center building is shown on the right edge. This shows how narrow the street was when the buildings to the left were present!
