Storm Update – Helpful Insurance Tips for Our Community
We know many homes and properties were impacted by the recent storm, and we just want to share a few helpful reminders as you start cleaning up:
🌳 Tree & Debris Removal Coverage
Most homeowners policies do provide some coverage for debris and tree removal—but it’s limited and depends on the situation.
Coverage usually applies only if the tree damaged a covered structure (like your home, garage, or fence)
If a tree falls in the yard without causing damage, it’s often not covered
Many policies have specific limits (often around $500–$1,000 per tree or capped overall)
Debris removal may also be tied to your main dwelling limit, sometimes with an additional small percentage available
🏠 Temporary Housing (ALE – Additional Living Expenses)
If your home is not livable due to a covered loss, your policy may help cover temporary housing.
Many insurance companies coordinate this through vendors like ALE Solutions, who assist with placing families in short-term housing while repairs are being completed.
🧾 Keep ALL Receipts
Very important:
Many coverages (especially temporary housing and extra expenses) are reimbursed after the fact, so keep receipts for:
*Hotel stays
*Food (above your normal spending)
*Laundry, travel, and other necessary expenses
📞 Talk to Your Agent First
Every policy is different. Before removing debris or booking housing, it’s always best to contact your insurance agent or company to confirm what’s covered and how to proceed.
