Chamber Champion Spotlight: Proof & Balance,
For many small and medium-sized business owners, managing finances can feel overwhelming. Proof & Balance was founded to bring organization and confidence to business owners, allowing more time for day-to-day operations.
Jennifer Syers’ journey into bookkeeping and accounting began more than two decades ago. She started her career at a CPA firm in Greenville, where she spent ten years working while attending school full-time to become a CPA. While she thrived, Jennifer realized that the traditional CPA path often came with long hours and stress that did not align with the family-focused life she wanted.
She later spent another decade working for a private company in Winterville before transitioning to remote work to support her family. That move eventually led her to a virtual bookkeeping company based in Texas, where she partnered with Melissa Trevino. Together, they combined their experience and shared vision to create Proof & Balance. The firm was built to address pain points in the bookkeeping industry and create better systems for both clients and professionals. While Melissa focuses on tax strategy, Jennifer leads payroll and bookkeeping services.
Proof & Balance operates as a boutique bookkeeping firm, serving small and medium-sized businesses with services tailored to each client’s needs as well as their budget. The firm prioritizes transparency and communication, including a 24-hour response time for all clients. By keeping financial records organized and accurate, Proof & Balance helps business owners save money and make more informed decisions in a stress-free manner.
What sets the firm apart is its focus on education and empowerment. Jennifer understands that many business owners feel intimidated by bookkeeping, especially in the early stages. By cleaning up financial systems, offering guidance, and providing training resources, Proof & Balance gives clients back both time and peace of mind.
Jennifer has called Winterville home for more than ten years. Originally from Bear Grass, she attended Pitt Community College before earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an accounting minor from ECU. Outside of work, she remains active in the community through both the Greenville-Pitt County and Winterville Chamber of Commerce, local donation drives, Backpack Pals, and youth soccer. Jennifer is also a strong supporter of the Winterville Chamber’s BREW program, sharing her knowledge to help entrepreneurs build a solid foundation, and she remains deeply dedicated to school initiatives like the Winterville Chamber’s Back to School Breakfasts in support of local educators and through her involvement at South Central High School.
At its core, Proof & Balance is about more than numbers. It’s about helping business owners feel confident, supported, and prepared for what comes next – both in their businesses and within the community Jennifer is proud to serve.
