This week the president has decided to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords, an agreement signed by 195 different countries to take action on climate change. The President’s decision has demonstrated that Washington cannot be counted on for action in the face of global climate change. As a result, the drive for change must come from our cities, local governments, and even schools like Rollins College, where our mission statement presses us students to think and act as global citizens and environmental stewards. It is our duty to remain vigilant as the effects of climate change become reality for our fellow citizens, both domestically and abroad.
There are many ways to get involved in this fight for a better future, one of them being to join the fossil fuel divestment movement, which was a cornerstone of the Paris Climate Accords. RCSI has seen great success in the past semester for divestment, yet there is still much work to be done. By signing our petition, you will be joining the 600+ students, faculty, and staff that have dedicated themselves to this fight. You can find the petition and more on our website DivestRollins.com.
