McKinsey’s new report on “The Great Ownership Transfer” puts real numbers behind a shift many business owners are already feeling.

By 2035, roughly six million small and medium-sized businesses are expected to face ownership transitions as baby boomer owners retire. But historically, McKinsey estimates that 92% of SMB exits happened through closure, not sale or transfer.
