Citizens suspended all policy binding statewide as of 11:05 a.m. ET today, October 7, triggered by a hurricane watch in the Florida Panhandle, hundreds of miles from here. The rule doesn't care where the storm is headed. One watch anywhere in Florida freezes new policies and coverage changes everywhere in Florida.

It's temporary. Citizens lifted the same kind of freeze after three days back in July. If you've ever looked at your auto policy and wondered what those numbers mean, here's the simple version:

Bodily Injury coverage comes into play if you're found at fault for someone else's injuries.

A 100/300 limit means:

→ Up to $100,000 for one injured person

→ Up to $300,000 total if multiple people are injured in the same accident

For comparison, Florida's minimum Bodily Injury limits are 10/20 — that's $10,000 per person and $20,000 per accident.

Many drivers choose higher limits, like 100/300, for additional protection.

What is Bodily Injury coverage?

Most Florida drivers have it on their policy — but can't explain what it actually does.
Bodily Injury does NOT protect you.

It protects the other person if you cause an accident.

It can help pay for:
→ Their medical bills
→ Their lost wages
→ Legal costs if they pursue action against you

What most people don't know is Florida does not require Bodily Injury coverage. And without it, or with limits that are too low, you can be personally responsible for costs your policy doesn't cover.
