To contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA), enrollment in a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is required, and the level of coverage in that plan (self-only or family) determines the HSA contribution limit. For 2022, the HSA maximum contribution limits are $3,650 for self-only coverage and $7,300 for family coverage. Individuals age 55 and up can contribute an additional $1,000/year. Note that any employer HSA contributions are counted toward the limit, and HSA contributions must stop once an individual is enrolled in Medicare.
