More than three decades ago, Violetta's family came to Vermont. Years later, when she found herself back at the starting line, she knew school was her way through—and The Curtis Fund was there to help.

The Curtis Fund has always been about more than tuition. It's about opening doors that can change the course of a life, and sometimes a family's. VSAC is proud to serve as a Curtis Fund administrative partner.

Violetta's story is a powerful reminder: when we invest in one Vermonter's education, the impact can reach far beyond a single scholarship.

After eight years out of the workforce, Violetta feared she had become unhireable. She returned to school, earned two nursing degrees with support from The Curtis Fund, and built a new career. Now her daughter is a Curtis Fund scholar, too.

As students return to Mill River Union High School in Clarendon, they may find that their school-issued computers were spruced up by three of their peers.

With the supervision of District Technology Innovation and Support Specialist Ryan Anderson, three students spent the summer serving as apprentices in the district’s information technology department.

One of the students is Lee Burch. "“I was always really into technology,” Burch said. “While I was building my first computer, I was invited to hang out in the tech office during Flex. When I heard that I could do that over the summer as a job ... I was really excited that I could get to do something I really liked.”

Shoutout to Lee and his fellow apprentices, Samuel Ruck and Gavin LeMere. The year is off to a great start at Mill River, in part because of you!
